Patagonia, Argentina with Nicola Ross

Program rescheduled:

Due to inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions, this program has been rescheduled for:

Monday, April 30, 2012

7:00 p.m.

Mill Street location in the Meeting Room (lower level)

Also known as the Just-in-Case-I-Don't-Like-Fly-Fishing Guide to Patagonia, this program is sure to entertain!

If you've ever wanted to visit this Andean region of Argentina, or have a penchant for travel to distant places, you are sure to enjoy this Armchair Travel Series presentation by local author and environmentalist, Nicola Ross.

In this quirky travelogue, Ms. Ross, new to fly fishing, pursues the pastime in an effort to see beyond standard tourist traps, and to keep her partner happy. She soon discovers, however, that fly fishing takes her back to her childhood in Belfountain, where her father spent hours casting on the Credit River. "Fly fishing," says Ross, "is a great pursuit since trout only live in beautiful places." Clearly, Patagonia is just such a place.

"Imagine the Niagara Peninsula with its acres of fruit trees, lines of grape vines, and charming villages, sidled up against Banff's Rocky Mountains, with their pounding rivers and panoramic views. Then combine Southern Ontario's heat, with Alberta's dryness and add almost constant blue skies. This is Argentina's northern Patagonia."

Nicola Ross is an award-winning author of four books, including Dufferin County and Caledon, and is a regular contributor to both In the Hills and Food in the Hills. She has also published articles in The Walrus, The Globe and Mail, Explore, Ontario Nature, Alternatives Journal, Harrowsmith Country Life, and more. On leave from her role as editor-in-chief of Alternatives Journal, Canada's national environmental magazine, Ms. Ross pursues her love of writing, the environment, sport, and travel on a full time basis.

Admission is free. Everyone is welcome, and refreshments are provided.
