Microfilm & Microfiche

Microfilm & Microfiche Collection

The Orangeville Public Library has a microfilm and microfiche collection available at the Mill Street location to assist those researching local history and genealogy. Microfilm and microfiche provide a wealth of information for those interested in the history of Orangeville, its residents, and the surrounding area.

Local newspapers, dating back to the mid-1800's, are photographed, page by page, so that they can be viewed on the microfilm reader/printer. Portions may be printed if desired. The cost of printing is 20 cents per page. Please note that the microfiche machine does not have printing capability.

Birth, death, and marriage announcements, advertisements, obituaries, news items and much more can be viewed as they originally appeared in the newspaper. Whether for research, hobby, homework or fun, these resources offer a fascinating glimpse of the past.

Because microfilm and microfiche are only available for use in the Library, a library card is not required. Everyone is welcome to use the microfilm and microfiche collection at the OPL. Use of the microfilm reader/printer may be limited to a one hour session, per person, per day, when in high demand.

If you would like more information on using the microfilm collection, please call the Information Assistant at the Mill St. location for details at 519-941-0610, ext. 5223.
