Library Cards

Having a library card enables you to borrow Library material* from either location of the Orangeville Public Library at no cost, provided you return the material on time, and undamaged.

• Your library card is valid at both Orangeville Public Library locations
• Materials may be returned to either library location, regardless of where the material was picked up

How to Get a Library Card

Residents:

No charge to people who live in, and/or pay property taxes to the Town of Orangeville. This applies to people who live in residences for which property taxes are collected by the Town of Orangeville, such as renters or tenants.

Non-residents:

A non-resident membership may be purchased for:

• $145.00 per household (12 months)
• $ 72.50 per household (6 months)

The Library accepts payment in cash, cheque and by debit card.

Please note: A $25.00 fee will be charged by the Library for all N.S.F. cheques.

Requirements

Adults

Adults may apply in person and present identification showing proof of current address, such as:

• Driver's license
• Auto insurance
• Utility bill *
• Personal cheque

If no picture identification is presented, a second piece of identification is required, such as:

• Credit card
• Birth certificate
• Passport
• Personal mail with current postmark *
• Tax or lease receipt
• Rental agreement

* Mailed items must be dated and no more than one month old

Teens

Teens 14 and over can apply for their own library card using a student I.D. card as identification.

Children

Children under 14 years of age may have a library card provided a parent or legal guardian signs accepting responsibility and that parent/legal guardian can provide the same identification and proof of address required for a personal membership.

Keep it Current!

Please be sure to advise the Library if you change your:

• Name
• Address
• Telephone number or e-mail address (if you have opted for e-mail notification)

Your card will be updated at no charge.

Your library card will need to be renewed each year. Please do not destroy your old or expired library card. Provided your card has been used within the last year, and is still in the Library's computer system, your expired library card may be renewable so that you may still be able to use the same card and account number.

Keep it Safe!

Your library card is important! Keep it in a safe place, and protect your Personal Identification Number (P.I.N.). Try not to scratch or bend your card, and be sure to sign the back.

Login to Your Library Account

You will need to enter your Library Account Number, which appears below the barcode on the front of your library card, along with your P.I.N. (Personal Identification Number) to Login to Your Account on the Internet.

Lost or Stolen Library Cards

A lost or stolen library card should be reported to the Library as soon as possible. You are responsible for all material borrowed on your card, or your child's card (applies to parent or guardian with signing authority) until it is reported as stolen.

The replacement cost for a lost library card is $1.00.

Presenting your Library Card

Your Library card must be presented each and every time you wish to borrow library material, and/or access your library account information.

If you are calling to renew library material, place hold requests, or otherwise inquire regarding your library account, please have your library card handy, as you will be asked for your library account number, which appears below the barcode on the front of your library card.

You will also need to have this number, along with your P.I.N. (Personal Identification Number) to Login to Your Account on the Internet.

Replacement Cards

The replacement cost for library cards is $1.00. Worn out library cards (and/or key fobs) will be replaced free of charge.
